In different parts of the world bass fishing has become the top freshwater sport. The industry has grown beyond expectations – and with good reason.
It’s one of the few sports where the body you are born with isn’t the determining factor whether you can reach the upper echelons of the sport or not.
Anybody of any age can become an elite bass angler. It’s a level playing field out there.
For some people competition is the primary attraction. Being able to pit their wits, skills and expertise against others – and hopefully pick up a trophy or 2 along the way.
For others it’s the opportunity to be more than just an armchair sports expert. Someone that’s out there frequently on the water and can speak on the subject from a position of personal experience.
The bass fishing industry is so large and healthy at the moment that enthusiasts can make their income from it and not just class it as a hobby.
There’s not just money to made on and around the water, but on the merchandise and equipment side of the business.
Above all though, the popularity of bass fishing comes from the sheer enjoyment of the sport! Spending good times connected to nature with family and friends.
Where to Begin
Before rushing out and buying all of the gear, seek out the help and advice from someone that knows the sport inside out.
Of course you could try to figure it out yourself – but you could end up spending too much money on equipment you don’t need. Plus, if your first attempts don’t go well you could throw in the towel before having truly experienced bass fishing.
If you don’t personally know any experienced bass anglers who can show you the ropes you might want to think about going out with a guide. Somebody local to the area that can get you started on the right foot.
If you do this before buying your own equipment it will also give you the opportunity to “try before you buy”. To see what is working in the wild rather than looks the most appealing in the store.
